Christmas shopping dates from The Butter Bath Company

Hello Butter Bath Fans!

We are gearing up for an exciting Christmas season... it's hard to believe we are already at that point of the year AGAIN!  We just kicked off with one of our "fun" shows, the Farm Fresh Fair at Rabon Creek.  This is truly what I have coined a "FASHION FARM".  This venue is cute, quaint, adorable, and has very finely coiffed chickens, too!
I'd love to think this was a precursor to the future success of the rest of our seasonal shows, because it was a lot of fun!  This show has only been going for 3 years, and this year's attendance was wonderful!  They were literally lined up for a LONG WAYS prior to the gates opening... I snapped a quick shot of the head of the line as I was coming back from a quick pit-stop before the gates opened, and was excited to see how far it snaked on for...

Anyway, we have 3 more BIG SHOWS on the horizon...
1.  The Upstate Holiday Show in Anderson, SC, November 6 - 9, 2014, in the Anderson Sports and Entertainment Center

2.  The Greenville Holiday Fair in Greenville, SC, December 4 - 6, 2014, in the TD Convention Center

3.  The Brookwood Church Christmas Extravaganza, Simpsonville, SC, December 13, 2014, at Brookwood Church

We'll have all of your FACE favorites, plus all of your Christmas specialty items available at all 3 shows!

And, we hope to have a surprise NEW product in the mix to unveil for these shows, too... but, time is ticking, and we can't completely confirm nor deny anything concerning this top secret mission.

So, before we get to "THE SEASON", go ahead and start your shopping lists, your wish lists, and hop over to ButterBath.com to pick out what your getting for both yourself and for others for this wonderful upcoming Christmas 2014!

Blessings from The Butter Bath Company

Happy 2014 - Video Blogging on the horizon!

HELLO 2014!

So, what's on the horizon for The Butter Bath Company® that we think is worth putting a tease out there about?  VIDEO BLOGGING.

Yeap... I am so slack at "blogging" in the traditional sense (mostly because it just takes so dog-gone long for me to formulate my words into complete & correct "written" sentences) that I figured I should just do what I do best when it comes to communicating.  I should just TALK.

So, we are currently waiting on some lighting equipment right now (we figure it would be nice if you could actually "see" the video).  We are absolutely excited about bringing you fun, short, informational tidbits on a regular basis!  I promise to be as short as possible (OK, I can hear some of you laughing, but I promise to try to be very brief!).  All you have to worry about is getting past my southern accent.

So, go ahead and start inviting your friends to follow the BUTTER BATH BLOG, because it is going to be a FUN 2014 around here (it may be "funny", too).  Our first video blog post should be up before the end of January, keep your fingers crossed.  See you soon - or should I say, you'll be seeing "me" soon!  Who knows - maybe The Butter Bath Company will even score a viral video along the way some day... Sweet!

So, here's to awesome skin in 2014!

Mineral oil vs. Petroleum-free Baby Oil

Every time there is a big petroleum oil spill in the gulf, we see how it endangers that ecosystem. We quickly see images of people using dish washing
IBRRC / Foter / CC BY
liquid as a cleansing agent in an effort to save the lives of the goo-coverd animals. Yucky goo... you sure wouldn't go swimming in this black goo, nor would you let your baby come in contact with it either.

What does this visual image have to do with common, everyday baby oil? The main ingredient in the majority of big brand baby oils is mineral oil, which is a distilled by-product of petroleum (that black goo). So, this begs the question, if you would save an animal from an oil slick, why would you consider slathering a distilled version of the same yucky goo on your baby?

Admittedly, a baby covered in black goo is a bit of an exaggeration, but hopefully you get the point. So, next we should consider how well mineral oil actually performs as skin moisturizer, before making any further decisions. First, the molecules of mineral oil are too large to be absorbed into the skin. Basically, mineral oil creates a barrier that moisture and air can't pass through. It is kind of like applying a plastic coating to your skin (another interesting visual image) - it will keep the skin's existing moisture trapped, but it does not attract or add any additional moisture. This is another missed opportunity for poor old mineral oil to be considered a good moisturizer. Whereas it may have some valid uses, moisturizing is not one of them.

So, why do the well-known brand name baby oil companies use mineral oil as their main ingredient in their so-called moisturizing baby oils? Honestly, I'm shrugging my shoulders and rolling my eyes as I speculate on possible answers to that question. What do you think?

If you are thinking you wouldn't want to use a petroleum-based baby oil, then what should you use?  We have the perfect solution for you! The Butter Bath Company's
Petroleum-free Baby Oil is incredible!  This 100% natural moisturizer combines almond oil with several other intensely rich, yet extremely gentle plant-based oils, with a touch of chamomile. It is gentle enough for a tiny tot, while being intensely rich, so that ANY AGE would be delighted to moisturize their skin with it!

Additionally, this product was created to address a special dietary need for my very special grandson who is on a ketogenic diet for seizures. So, our Petroleum-free baby oil has been designed to be suitable for use with a ketogenic diet, it is also gluten-free and vegan!  But, mostly it just feels AMAZING! It glides on effortlessly, it soaks in quickly, it is super rich, and wonderfully long-lasting! This is a true moisturizer! You can baby your skin perfectly with our Petroleum-free Baby Oil! And, as always, all products from The Butter Bath Company come with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. So, skip the petroleum goo, and instead go "goo-goo" over The Butter Bath Company's Petroleum-free Baby Oil with almond oil and chamomile.

Does water moisturize your skin?

Water from the inside of your body creates most of your skin's moisture. External moisture has very little affect on your skin's overall moisture level. In fact, excessive amounts of water from the outside can actually be drying to your skin. This is because external water is considered to be a mild irritant, and will disrupt the integrity of the skin, allowing for the water from within your skin to evaporate out. This means that if you wash your skin a lot (without utilizing a proper moisturizer with the right kind of protective barrier) your skin will become dryer. And, don't be fooled by the word "humectant" (moisture attracting ingredients), because humectants primarily attract moisture from the deeper layers of your skin, and pull it to the surface - they don't typically attract significant amounts of moisture from the outside. However, external water does have some benefits; When used in moderation, it cleans away the grime, and softens and smooths the skin so that it is initially more receptive to accepting and retaining the healthy barrier ingredients that will keep the moisture IN your skin. The key to maximizing your moisturizing efforts is to 1- look for good barrier ingredients that prevent water evaporation, while healing damaged skin cells, and 2- make sure you are moisturizing after you wash, when your skin is most receptive. But, water itself, is NOT a moisturizer... It simply evaporates. It is only used in moisturizers as a delivery system - and frankly, many manufacturers use it simply to reduce their production costs, without thinking about how "good" the product really is. So, if you want to get the most for your moisturizing dollars, you should start examining the ingredients. Ingredient labels are listed in descending order from the highest percentages to the lowest. Therefore, if water is at the top of the list, it probably has anywhere from 65-85% water. Are you paying a lot for water, or for the ingredients that actually work? The second thing to look for are good barrier ingredients. Now, I caution here that some barrier ingredients are far worse than using nothing at all --- I am NOT a fan of anything with petrolatum or mineral oil (two common barrier ingredients that I'll discuss in other posts). But, if you find wonderful natural ingredients that are rich in fatty acids, vegetable oils & butters, and natural waxes high up on the ingredient list, then you are choosing wisely. Some examples of great moisturizers from The Butter Bath Company include our body butters and our body oils.
So, what is the best way to moisturize? Ideally, hydrate from within by drinking proper amounts of water every day. Then limit your exposure to excessive amounts of water externally. When you wash your skin make sure that you also use a good barrier moisturizer to prevent evaporation from your skin. And, get the biggest bang for your buck by selecting moisturizers with little to no water (The Butter Bath Company NEVER uses water in ANY of our products). And, avoid outside irritants that can disrupt the integrity of your external layer of skin. And, always, LOVE what goes on your skin! I believe that you should always love what goes on your skin, or you shouldn't use it at all! We invite your questions & comments!
