The Quintessential Label Reader

Over the past decade I have become the quintessential example of a compulsive label reader. I can NOT purchase much of anything any more without first inspecting the INGREDIENTS. Even with all of my years of experience at this task, I can find myself confused by some of the ingredients. However, label reading is the only way that one can hope to know anything about the products that they are purchasing.
Why?...
Because the packaging of many products can be quite deceitful. Sure... that product has a pretty white & green label (so it looks like a "green" product)... You read the flowery words, lending themselves to the "NATURAL" thought process... And, you recognize the name of the manufacturer, as being one of the "biggies"... Plus, you have found this item located in that "special" section of your local grocery store (you know, where the "green", "earthy", "natural" products huddle together)... So, this product MUST be "good for you", right?
Well, SOMETIMES that is RIGHT...
However, if you read the labels, you may be surprised.
Hummm... this one has parabens
Huh?... that one has sodium lauryl sulfate
What's that... and why are there so many long chemical sounding ingredients in this product?
And, oh my gosh... FRAGRANCE sounds innocent enough, but is it "synthetic" or "natural"?
Yes, becoming a quintessential label reader may require you to spend more time, but, in the end, you will be entertained, surprised, educated, and enlightened. All things that I believe are highly advantageous to our healthy existence.
